MCD to build plastic waste processing plant in Delhi

Environment  -  Nov 06,2023  -

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed to build the Capital's first factory devoted to processing plastic trash. This will help in the reduction of the amounts of plastic that wind up at the Delhi's dump sites.

A zero residue torrefaction process would allow the plant to treat 1,000 tonnes of garbage per day (tpd). The corporation issued an expression of interest (EoI) call for private companies in July. Two private businesses have been picked based on the response to the EoI, according to senior MCD officials.

MCD has asked both the companies to give detailed presentation on land requirement, designing, installing and operating such zero residue plants. Based on these parameters, tenders will be floated.

Torrefaction is a thermochemical process that decreases water and volatiles contents from a specific material and improves fuel properties and calorific value.
