Mahindra Takes Possession of First 800 Acres for ₹15,000 Crore Nagpur Manufacturing Complex
Mahindra & Mahindra is moving toward taking possession of the first package of approximately 800 acres for its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility, to be built at Additional Butibori in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The land was allotted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and the company plans to acquire the remaining 700 acres in the coming days.
The greenfield project, first announced at the Advantage Vidarbha event in February 2026, will eventually span 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region and will be supported by a separate 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar. The Nagpur project forms part of a broader ₹15,000 crore investment commitment by Mahindra in Maharashtra over a 10-year period, during which the group plans to acquire more than 2,000 acres across three locations, including additional land in the Igatpuri-Nashik region.
The facility is being designed as a flexible manufacturing hub capable of producing internal combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles and tractors, allowing the company to adjust its production mix as demand for different powertrain technologies evolves. Once fully operational, the site is expected to have an annual production capacity exceeding 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, making it Mahindra's largest integrated manufacturing facility in India, more than twice the land area of its Chakan plant and about ten times that of its Nashik facility.
The supplier park at Sambhajinagar will supply components to the new Nagpur facility as well as Mahindra's existing plants at Chakan and Nashik. Alongside the physical development, Mahindra is setting up a dedicated skilling centre in Nagpur and a structured selection process to build its workforce for the facility. Production at the Nagpur site is scheduled to begin in 2028.
