Mahindra reveals EV manufacturing & battery facility at Chakan plant

Manufacturing  -  Jan 09,2025  -

Mahindra has revealed a new manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant. The facility is a fully integrated ecosystem dedicated to producing Electric Origin SUVs.

The plant is located at the company’s Chakan manufacturing complex which is one of the largest greenfield projects in India and a water-positive site.

Mahindra plans to invest Rs 4,500 crore of its Rs 16,000 crore F22–F27 investment cycle in powertrain development, product top hats, software, tech, and manufacturing.

The manufacturing of EVs is done in the fully integrated manufacturing ecosystem that employs over 1000 robots and several transfer systems.

Spanning 88,000 m², the facility focuses on the EV domain, featuring a Press Shop and an AI-operated Body Shop. It also houses one of India’s most advanced robotic Paint Shops.

M&M will deploy 500+ robots and automated transfer systems in the Body Shop, monitored via an IoT-based “Nerve Center” for real-time insights and traceability.

M&M’s fully automated plant uses Industry 4.0 tech to produce, store, and transfer high-performance, long-lasting batteries with indigenously developed processes.

The facility conducts multi-layered end-of-line testing with IP67 protection, real-time temperature monitoring, and automated anomaly isolation.
