Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has virtually launched work on a 1,440 MW pumped storage project in Madhya Pradesh, India.

According to a press release, the project, which is being constructed by Greenko Group, will be the country's largest pumped storage facility. The project has not been named by the corporation, although it looks to be Gandhisagar (or Gandhi Sagar).

The plant in the Neemuch district has a capacity of 1,440 MW and a storage capacity of 7.5 hours. Greenko stated that the project will be increased to 1,920 MW with 6 hour storage to provide roughly 11 GWh daily storage, but no date was provided.

The overall investment will total Rs 115 billion (US$1.4 billion) over the next three years, and it will generate 4,800 jobs during construction and 200 jobs after completion of the construction.

It will be completed within 30 months, as against the allocated period of 36 months by statutory authorities.
