The Government Children's Home's land in Kakkanad will be transferred for use in the Kochi Metro's Phase-II line building projects after receiving preliminary approval from the Women and Child Development (WCD) department.
The in-principle clearance is given with the restriction that KMRL would only buy 13.92 cents of the Children's Home's land.
Additionally, KMRL has consented to build a concrete wall to divide the Children's Home from the proposed Metro station and to keep the facility's gate.
The issue raised over the land acquisition, was addressed at a meeting held by the Principal Secretary (Revenue Department).
The Children’s Home demanded that preliminary works such as construction of compound wall, relocation of existing underground water tanks, shifting of security cabin and gates need to be completed prior to the Metro construction works.
