Kapadvanj unit expansion of Bigbloc Construction to be completed in six months

Infrastructure  -  Nov 09,2023  -

In the upcoming six to seven months, Gujarat-based Bigbloc Construction is anticipated to finish the expansion of its unit at Kapadvanj in the Ahmedabad district. The project is expected to require a total of Rs 65 crore in investment.

Siam Cement Big Bloc Construction Technologies (SCBBCTPL), a joint venture (JV) between BigBloc and the Thailand-based SIAM Cement Group (SCG), is constructing a three lakh cbm annual facility at Kapadvanj to produce aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) blocks and autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) panels.

Construction at the facility is progressing well, and the company seeks to begin commercial production at this unit in the next six to seven months. This is SCG Group’s first investment in India, and BigBloc holds 52 percent of the JV company.

SCBBCTPL acquired 60,000 sq. mtrs. of land for the project, completed a banking tie-up for financing the project, and ordered machinery and technical services for the plant.

In another expansion, the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Bigbloc Building Elements, is anticipated to start work on the second phase of the Wada project in Palghar, Maharashtra.

It is planning to add another 2.5 lakh cubic mtrs. per annum (cmpa) capacity of AAC block at the facility. Commercial operations of the first phase of 2.5 lakh cmpa AAC block capacity started in April 2023.
