Metallurgical Industries  -  Jan 28,2025  -

JSW Group, led by its flagship, JSW Steel has made a foray into copper mining with a Rs 2,600-crore investment.

It has secured two copper mine blocks in Jharkhand from Hindustan Copper in a mine developer and operator (MDO) contract through bidding for a period of 20 years, and this can be further extended by another 10 years. These mines are projected to begin partial operations in the second half of 2026-27 and will reach an annual ore capacity of three million tonne when fully ramped up.

Copper has gained importance due to its role in renewable energy and technological advancements.

The company also plans to establish a copper concentrator plant to enhance processing capabilities.  Also, JSW has become the first private sector player to venture into copper mining.
