Jindal Steel & Power commissions hot strip mill at Angul plant

Manufacturing  -  Jan 23,2024  -

Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has commissioned its six million tpa hot strip mill at its steel manufacturing facility at Angul in Odisha. This is pivotal to the company’s foray into the flat products market.

The mill has been commissioned in a record time of 29 months, and the hot strip mill (HSM) produced the first set of coils on 10 January, 2024 and the coils were dispatched on 15 January, 2024.

The HSM is capable of producing 1.00 mm thick and 1,680 mm wide coils and is equipped with advanced features like transfer bar cooling, edge heater, coil box, and heat shields, ensuring top-notch flatness, uniform mechanical properties, and production of superior value-added grades. As these find widespread applications, across auto, construction, oil, downstream cold rolling, and others, the commissioning makes the company well-positioned to cater to these sectors.

Jindal Steel & Power is expanding its integrated steel plant capacity from six million tpa to 25.2 million tpa at Kerjang villasge, Chhendipada in Angul district of Odisha. The project also includes a 36-million tpa underground slurry pipeline in three phases and a 12.5 million-tpa cement plant.
