Indosol Solar to Commission 1 GW Integrated Ingot-Wafer-Cell-Module Line at Ramayapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
Indosol Solar Private Limited, the solar PV manufacturing arm of Shirdi Sai Electricals Limited (SSEL), is progressing toward commissioning its 1 GW integrated Ingot-Wafer-Cell-Module production line at its Ramayapatnam facility in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The company had earlier commenced commercial production at the site with a 500 MW solar module manufacturing line under the government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
The Ramayapatnam plant is being developed as a fully vertically integrated solar manufacturing facility, covering the value chain from metallurgical-grade silicon and polysilicon through to ingots, wafers, cells and modules. Once complete, the site is intended to be among the world's first fully integrated quartz-to-module manufacturing facilities, with an eventual target capacity of 30 GW upstream and 20 GW downstream.
Under the company's phased roadmap, capacity is expected to scale to 5 GW of ingot-wafer-cell-module production by March 2027, with 15 GW of metallurgical-grade silicon and polysilicon capacity and 10 GW of ingot-wafer-cell-module capacity targeted by March 2028.
Chairman and Managing Director of the SSEL Group, Visweswara Reddy, has said the initial 1 GW ingot-to-module line is intended to serve as a pilot facility to train and skill the workforce and build operational expertise ahead of further capacity expansion. The Andhra Pradesh government has supported the project with land allocation, having handed over around 114 acres suitable for the 1 GW facility.
The broader integrated project envisages a total land requirement of 8,348 acres, including ancillary industries, a township, and common infrastructure such as roads, power and a desalination plant, and is expected to be developed in phases over several years with a full project investment of around ₹15,000 crore for the initial 5 GW phase.
