India's first silicon carbide manufacturing facility breaks ground in Odisha

RIR Power Electronics Ltd, a leader in semiconductor power electronics technology inaugurated India's first silicon carbide manufacturing facility at EMC Park, Infovalley, Bhubaneswar. 

The groundbreaking event was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, placing Odisha and India at the forefront of the global power electronics market.

The new facility, which involves an investment of approximately Rs 620 crore over three years, is set to create more than 500 jobs. 

It aims to cater to international markets, including North America, Europe, and Asia, serving sectors such as railway, defence, power, transportation, aerospace, and sustainable energy.

“The establishment of RIR Power Electronics Ltd.'s facility is a crucial step in making Odisha a leading semiconductor hub,” said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. “This project will generate numerous opportunities for local youth and attract skilled professionals, driving economic growth and innovation.”

Odisha has introduced a dedicated Semiconductor Policy and the O-Chip Programme to support semiconductor startups and academic research. 

RIR Power Electronics Ltd. plans to collaborate with IIT Bhubaneswar for further technical and research development.
