Indian Railways plans to build second manufacturing facility at Kazipet

Manufacturing  -  Jul 10,2023  -

In Kazipet, Telangana, Indian Railways plans to build a second train manufacturing facility. On July 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the unit's foundation stone. Arun Kumar Jain, general manager of South Central Railway (SCR), disclosed that the factory will start producing 1,200 waggons in its first year of operation before increasing output to 2,400 waggons in the following year.

While Braithwaite & Co. in Kolkata is the country's first railway manufacturing facility, Indian Railways will soon open the first facility in Kazipet. Originally authorised as a waggon repair facility with a monthly overhaul capacity of 200 waggons, it was later decided to transform it into a full-fledged waggon manufacturing facility.

Initially sanctioned as a wagon repair workshop capable of overhauling 200 wagons per month, it was later decided to convert it into a full-fledged wagon manufacturing unit to meet the growing demand and promote local industry.

Jain further emphasized that the establishment of this unit will not only meet the demand for wagons but also contribute to the development of the industrial ecosystem in the Hanumakonda region. Spanning over 160 acres, the unit will have the potential for future expansion in both wagon and rolling stock manufacturing capacities.
