HPCL establishing green hydrogen plant in Andhra Pradesh: Minister Rameshwar Teli

Petroleum  -  Jul 21,2023  -

By building a green hydrogen plant in Visakh Refinery, Andhra Pradesh, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has started along the path to a greener and more sustainable future.

This substantial action is consistent with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, which seeks to position India as a global leader in the production, use, and export of green hydrogen.

The facility, which will reduce India's reliance on imported fossil fuels, is planned to have an annual electrolyzer capacity of 370 tonnes. The project, which is anticipated to be completely operational by September of this year, demonstrates the Indian government's dedication to renewable energy.

The green hydrogen project at the Visakh refinery is a part of a larger initiative that includes solar projects in Karnataka with a total capacity of 3.6 MW.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, minister Rameswar Teli said the state-owned entity spent Rs 11 crore out of a total fund allocation of Rs 33 crore for this project.

According to the minister, state-run refiners are planning to set up projects to produce 30.8 kilotonnes a year of green hydrogen by 2030.
