Haworth Expands India Manufacturing with Second Plant at Sriperumbudur, Chennai
Haworth, a workplace furniture manufacturer that entered India in 1997, is expanding its manufacturing operations in the country with a second facility at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. The new plant, currently under construction, will double the company's manufacturing space in India.
The facility will produce key Haworth products to support domestic demand and increase exports across the Asia-Pacific region, reducing the company's dependence on imports.
Haworth's existing manufacturing footprint in India began with a seating facility in Pune in 2005, followed by workstation production near Chennai in 2011. Operations were consolidated at the Sriperumbudur site in 2014. The existing Chennai facility spans 21,000 square metres and integrates metal fabrication, plastic moulding, upholstery and workstation manufacturing, along with an in-house pre-BIFMA testing laboratory.
The current Chennai plant runs on 100 per cent renewable energy through on-site solar generation and Energy Attribute Certificates, and follows a zero-waste-to-landfill policy. Its India-manufactured products are certified under BIS standards IS 17631:2022 and IS 17633:2022.
Company executives said the expansion reflects growing demand from Global Capability Centres and modern workplaces in India, and underscores the company's long-term commitment to manufacturing in the country for both domestic and international markets. No investment size or completion timeline for the new facility was disclosed.
