Gujarat Energy Development Corporation Ltd., a division of the State Government, inked a power consumption agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in the presence of Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai in Gandhinagar for the next 25 years to purchase 700 MW of electricity at a rate of 2.57 per unit
In accordance with this deal, Gujarat would receive a solar power plant that will cost 3500 crore and be operational by October 2024.
The state government will receive the solar energy produced as part of this initiative. This initiative has received support from the central government through viability gap funding (VGF).
With the addition of 700 MW of power in Gujarat, the overall solar power generation in the state will increase, resulting in more intensive daytime power supply to farmers in the state under Kisan Suryodaya Yojana.
The project will be set up by SECI under the second phase of the “Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU)” scheme in Gujarat under the New and Renewable Energy Department of the Central Government.
The project will play an important role in enhancing national energy security and facilitating environmental sustainability through the use of locally manufactured solar PV cells and modules.
