Gogoro signs deal with HPCL to establish battery stations across India

Infrastructure  -  Nov 07,2023  -

Gogoro, a battery swapping startup that is listed on the Nasdaq, revealed that it has signed a preliminary agreement with HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd) to open battery swapping locations across India soon.

According to a statement from HPCL, Gogoro will build a nationwide network of stations for electric two-wheeler battery switching and install these stations at HPCL retail locations.

With this initiative, electric vehicle (EV) owners in India will have easy access to battery switching options.

Gogoro's tie-up with HPCL, a government-controlled oil marketing company with more than 21,000 retail outlets, will involve the deployment of numerous Gogoro battery swapping stations at these retail outlets nationwide in the upcoming years.

"We are announcing a partnership with HPCL to roll out thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations across its retail outlets throughout the country in the coming years," Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro said.

Luke emphasised that India is now in the initial phases of a significant electric revolution within its urban two-wheeler transportation system.
