Godrej Agrovet to establish oil palm processing mill in Tripura

Food Processing  -  Aug 12,2024  -

Godrej Agrovet's (GAVL) Oil Palm Plantation business (OPP) will establish an oil palm processing milling unit in Tripura.

To be set up in the Dhalai district, the company will also set up an advanced research & development centre for oil palm in the vicinity, in addition to starting a Samadhan centre which provides support to oil palm farmers.

The company currently operates a nursery with a capacity of three lakh per year and plans to increase it to five lakh per year.

Following the introduction of the National Mission on Edible Oil Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) in August 2021, the government of Tripura has embarked on a plan to bring at least 7,000 hectares of land under palm cultivation.

The state government is committed to creating an ecosystem which is beneficial to oil palm farmers of the state, utilising the landmass which is best suited for the crop. With the processing mill coming up in the state, farmers can now sell their produce within the state.

A team of scientists would carry out genomics to develop seeds suitable to local climatic conditions and the state’s climate.

The capability will provide an opportunity to contribute to the nation’s journey of reducing dependency on the imports of oil palm.

The company endeavours to promote sustainable practices in oil palm cultivation.
