Foxconn mulling battery energy storage unit in India

Foxconn plans to set up a battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing unit in India, Foxconn chairman Young Liu said.

The company is also mulling an electric vehicle unit in India.

Foxconn’s market share in electronics manufacturing services covers four major product segments: smart consumer electronics; cloud and networking; computing; and components and others. For future growth, Foxconn is following as “3+3” long-term development strategy, focusing on three future industries: electric vehicles, digital health, and robotics, and three key technology areas: artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and next-generation communications.

Foxconn is focused on battery storage production for EVs, with its first battery cell plant set up in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The plant with a targeted annual production capacity of 1.2 million kWh will produce LFP batteries for electric buses, passenger cars and energy storage.

Foxconn has also developed lithium metal anode solid-state battery in collaboration with Blue Solution of Canada. In the development of lithium metal anode solid-state batteries, it has reached the energy density level of 400Wh/kg.
