Delhi Cabinet Approves ₹244.87 Crore, 250-Bed Trauma Block at GTB Hospital
The Delhi government has approved construction of a 250-bed super-speciality cum trauma block at Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Dilshad Garden, East Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said. The decision was taken at a Delhi Cabinet meeting chaired by Gupta.
The facility is estimated to cost ₹244.87 crore and is expected to be completed by 2028. It will be built under Phase-IV of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), a central scheme under which project costs are jointly borne by the Centre and the concerned state government. The new block will come up within the existing GTB Hospital campus, eliminating the need for additional land acquisition.
Spread over approximately 22,550 square metres, the seven-storey building will comprise a basement, ground floor and six upper floors, housing 250 beds, 48 specialist OPD rooms and nine modern operation theatres. The basement will house a blood bank and laboratory, while the ground floor will have a 24x7 emergency department with CT scan, MRI and X-ray facilities. A 72-bed ICU is planned for the second floor, with 175 general and private ward beds on the fourth and fifth floors, and the sixth floor allocated for offices, classrooms and a training laboratory.
Of the 250 beds, 20 will be designated for emergency care, five for a burns ICU, 70 for ICU care, four for isolation, 22 for pre- and post-surgery care, 102 for general wards and 25 for private rooms. The facility will offer specialist services including neurology, orthopaedics, dermatology and dental care, with 77 critical-care beds for critically ill patients.
A joint committee comprising senior officials from the central and Delhi governments will be constituted to monitor the project, meeting every three months to review construction progress.
