Kurnool district will host the country's largest semiconductor plant, with a Rs.14,000 crore investment from Japanese and Indian IT companies in the Orvakal Industrial Estate.
The district already boasts of prestigious projects like Jairaj Ispat Steel Plant and Solar Power Plant, which have boosted the clout of this industrial estate.
Representatives of a Japanese company have visited the industrial estate and expressed satisfaction with its infrastructure. The plans are to establish the semiconductor unit on 130 acres.
This ambitious project is expected to provide direct employment to 2,000 persons and indirect employment to 10,000 more.
As part of the TD-led government’s Speed of Doing Business initiative, preparations are on to commence production in this unit within two and a half years. An MoU on the project would be signed in two weeks’ time, officials said.
This industry would also help in the setting up of several ancillary units, boosting the region's industrial ecosystem. The products manufactured here will cater to both domestic and international markets, ensuring robust export opportunities, IT experts said.
