Coimbatore Corporation plans 25 MLD Reverse Osmosis Plant at Ukkadam STP

Infrastructure  -  Nov 18,2024  -

The Coimbatore Corporation plans to establish a 25 MLD Reverse Osmosis Plant at the Ukkadam Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Tamil Nadu.

Valued at an estimated 245 INR-Crore, this initiative aims to tackle untreated sewage discharge into lakes and river channels. It will also minimize industrial reliance on precious freshwater sources.

The Corporation plans to install either a Tertiary Treatment Reverse Osmosis (TTRO) or Tertiary Treatment Reverse Filtration (TTRF) system under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

This state-of-the-art Reverse Osmosis Plant in Coimbatore will treat STP water with precision. The diluted output from the plant will undergo further treatment before safely flowing into the Noyyal River system.

Additionally, a detailed survey will assess groundwater usage in the city and ensure the treated water meets the required standards.

With this initiative, Coimbatore Corporation seeks to ease the burden on the city’s freshwater resources, widely used for non-drinking purposes.
