Centre Awards 12 Pilot Projects Worth ₹410.77 Crore for 70 Hydrogen-Powered Vehicles Under Green Hydrogen Mission
The Government of India has awarded 12 pilot projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) for deploying 70 hydrogen-powered vehicles across 21 routes in various states. The fleet comprises 27 buses and 43 trucks, covering both Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) vehicles.
The projects also include installation of 16 hydrogen refuelling stations to support vehicle operations. Total financial assistance sanctioned for the pilots stands at approximately ₹410.77 crore, of which ₹41.58 crore has been released so far. The information was shared by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The projects have been awarded to multiple consortia, including NTPC, Tata Motors with Indian Oil Corporation, Reliance Industries, HPCL, NHPC, Waaree, EKA Mobility, KPI Green Energy and others, with deployments planned across states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Implementing agencies are required to submit regular performance reports covering vehicle efficiency, fuel consumption, safety and utilisation. The pilot projects, being executed in two phases, are intended to assess the techno-economic viability of hydrogen-based mobility and inform future policy on green hydrogen vehicle deployment as part of India's broader NGHM goal of building a global hub for green hydrogen production, use and export.
