Centre approves upgrade of NH-115 to improve connectivity between Assam, Arunachal Pradesh

Infrastructure  -  Apr 07,2025  -

The Central government has approved a significant road upgrade project to enhance connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The work involves upgrading a section of National Highway 115 (NH-115) from a standard two-lane configuration to a two-lane road with paved shoulders.

The stretch runs from Islampur, near the Dhola-Sadiya bridge, to the Border outpost at Shantipur in Tinsukia district, Assam.

The EPC mode project is expected to be completed by the financial year 2025-26, significantly reducing travel time and improving road safety in this strategically important region.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allocated a budget of Rs 50.43 crore for the project. Of this, Rs 48.80 crore is designated for FY25, mainly for pre-construction activities. The proposal was submitted by the Chief Engineer (NH), PWD Assam, in February, 2025.

A key feature of the initiative is its forward-looking maintenance plan, with Rs 1.17 crore earmarked for road upkeep from 2026 to 2029, underscoring a commitment to infrastructure longevity and service continuity.
