BPCL's Rs 60,000 crore oil refinery and petrochemical project to come up in Nellore, AP

Infrastructure  -  Nov 22,2024  -

Andhra Pradesh is poised to host a major oil refinery and petrochemical hub in Ramayapatnam, Nellore district, with an investment of Rs 60,000 crore. This development, led by Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), fulfills a key promise made during the state’s bifurcation in 2014.

After offering three potential sites - Srikakulam, Machilipatnam, and Ramayapatnam, the state finalised Ramayapatnam based on feasibility studies. The project spans 1,000 acres and highlights the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, with a formal announcement is expected soon. This also marks a critical milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s development journey, with a strong focus on sustainable progress and industrialisation.

This initiative underscores Naidu’s growing influence, coming shortly after his re-election and subsequent meetings with BPCL and Modi. Within days of discussions, BPCL officials met with Naidu in Vijayawada, signaling rapid progress. The project aligns with commitments made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, wherein. Section 93 and the Thirteenth Schedule of the Act outlines the establishment of a greenfield crude oil refinery and petrochemical complex as a priority.
