The construction of the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport for which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy placed the foundation stone on May 3, has commenced with a special pooja.
Reliable sources state that GMR chairman G Mallikarjun Rao and his family conducted the puja at the location on Wednesday at approximately 7:47 a.m.
Long-kept under wraps, the Rs 4,592-crore international airport project would be completed in three stages. The airport will be built in phases, with the first serving six million people annually (MPPA); the remaining two phases will add another eight million passengers annually (MPPA) to the total capacity.
According to sources, the rehabilitation and relief process has been fully completed and the EPC bid was finalised. Required funds were sanctioned from all participating financial institutions and banks.
