The two Jharkhand-based subsidiaries of coal PSU Coal India Limited (CIL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), seek to transition to clean energy by 2025 to satisfy future daily power needs for their office buildings and residential areas.
In an effort to generate roughly 100 MW of solar electricity, Dhanbad-based BCCL is looking to construct solar power producing units throughout its command areas.
The Ranchi-based CCL also plans to increase the amount of solar energy it can produce to 300 MW.
The PSU now has the installed ability to produce 1,660 kilowatts of solar electricity through rooftop solar systems, according to BCCL sources in Dhanbad who spoke with TOI on Wednesday.
Now, it is planning to commission a 25 MW capacity ground mounted solar power plant in its coal washery in Bhojudih.
The project was originally envisioned in 2022-23 FY but moved to the current financial year.
Another 20 MW capacity ground mounted solar unit has been proposed in its Dugdha coal washery.
