Ambuja Cements has announced that by 2025-26, the company will invest Rs 6,000 crore to add 1,000 MW of capacity for solar and wind power across Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Adani Group, the country's second-largest producer of cement, currently has a capacity of nearly 75 million tonne with 18 integrated manufacturing plants and 14 grinding units. It plans to use 60% green energy for its planned production capacity of 140 million tonne by 2027, and will be funding this investment in renewable energy entirely through internal accruals.
"This strategic investment reaffirms our steadfast commitment to sustainable practices. We are not just aiming for a substantial increase in green power capacity but setting the stage for a transformative shift in the cement industry," said Ajay Kapur, chief executive officer of Adani Group's cement business.
The company will set up a 600 MW solar power and 150 MW wind power project in Gujarat, along with a 250 MW solar power plant in Rajasthan. It currently has 84 MW of wind and solar power, which will be raised to 200 MW by March.
