Amara Raja and Piaggio India sign MoU to boost EV battery production

Automotive Industries  -  Aug 12,2024  -

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited to advance electric vehicle (EV) technology in India.

The agreement was announced on August 10, and focuses on the development and supply of lithium-ion cells, battery packs, and chargers for Piaggio’s electric three-wheelers and future two-wheelers.

Under the MoU, Amara Raja will manufacture LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) lithium-ion cells and chargers at its Gigafactory in Divitipally, Telangana.

This move is part of Amara Raja’s broader strategy to enhance local production capabilities and support the growth of the electric mobility sector in India, the company said.

The collaboration continues a partnership that began in 2020, during which Amara Raja supplied 50,000 NMC lithium-ion battery packs and EV chargers to Piaggio.

These products have collectively accumulated over 120 crore kilometres of use.
