Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has urged Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, to allocate ONGC's Green Hydrogen Project to Mangaluru.
Meeting the minister in New Delhi, the MP highlighted the benefits of situating the project in Mangaluru. He pointed out that ONGC, the main promoter of the Mangaluru Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), plans to establish a Green Hydrogen Project soon.
With around 160 acres of vacant land available in the MSEZ, the project could significantly benefit the local population by generating jobs and contributing to the constituency's growth. The MP also emphasized that the local administration is prepared to support the project fully.
Additionally, MP Chowta requested that families displaced by the JBF Petrochemicals-GAIL merger be considered for recruitment.
He noted that GAIL (India) Ltd acquired the Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) manufacturing plant of JBF Petrochemicals Ltd in June 2023, forming a new entity, GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd (GMPL).
