The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has announced plans to spend ₹5,000 crore annually on capital expenditure in the coming years, according to AAI chairman Sanjeev Kumar.

The authority is currently working on a roadmap for the expansion of Agatti airport in Lakshadweep. Kumar stated that AAI has already achieved a capital expenditure of Rs 3,416 crore by December 2023, surpassing its target of Rs 4,000 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24.

The authority is constructing new terminals at airports in Patna, Leh, Vijayawada, Tuticorin, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jammu, and Rajahmundry. Additionally, new terminal buildings are being added to Hubli, Belagavi, and Kadapa airports.

AAI is also discussing the expansion of Agatti Airport with the union territory administration of Lakshadweep and other stakeholders.

The authority is also working on finalizing research areas at its R&D centre in Hyderabad, which will serve as a collaborative research platform in air navigation services.
