Adani Power to establish 1600 MW greenfield power plant in UP for Rs 14,000 crore

Infrastructure  -  Aug 02,2024  -

Adani Power is set to build a 1600 MW (2x800 MW) greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant at Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.

The company plans to double thermal power capacity to about 30 MW, through this facility. Adani Power is likely to spend about Rs 14,000 crore in the project.

The company is currently expanding its thermal portfolio from 15.25 GW to 16.85 GW. The unit is being built by Adani Power subsidiary Mirzapur Thermal Energy (UP) (MTEUPL). Adani Power has acquired MTEUPL from Adani Infra (India) this June, and awarded the manufacture and supply contract of main plant equipment to BHEL.

The large-scale thermal power plant will provide an opportunity for the company to expand its generation capability as well as geographic footprint in India.

The company has also initiated the development of a 1600 MW thermal power expansion project at its existing 1,370 MW plant at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. India is aiming at 50 percent installed capacity from renewables (500 GW) by 2030.
