The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar said that the 79 percent of the construction work for the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot has been completed.

She stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

The Minister further said that the MBBS classes have commenced, and OPD services have also been operationalized in the health institute.

Setting up of 22 new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country has been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Out of the sanctioned 22 AIIMS, 6 AIIMS at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) became operational in 2012.
