₹361 Crore Achan Integrated Solid Waste Management Project in Srinagar, with 800 TPD Capacity, Enters Tendering Stage; Bids to Open October 1
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the ₹361 crore Integrated Solid Waste Management Project at Achan in Srinagar will be completed within one-and-a-half years. He made the statement in the Legislative Assembly. The project is at the tendering stage, and bids are scheduled to open on October 1.
The project is designed to process 800 tonnes of waste per day. It includes composting facilities, a bio-CBG plant, material recovery facilities, a refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility, a scientific sanitary landfill, transfer stations and leachate management infrastructure. It also covers ancillary environmental infrastructure and will address the legacy waste at the Achan site.
Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) currently handles about 500-550 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. It has deployed over 380 collection and transport vehicles and more than 2,700 sanitation workers.
Other facilities at Achan are already in place or under way. A 100 TPD Material Recovery Facility and an 85 TPD wet waste processing plant have been established. A 125 TPD Construction and Demolition waste facility is being set up under SBM-U 2.0, with civil works completed. Biomining and bioremediation of about 11 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste has been awarded to a specialised agency, and windrow formation and civil works are in progress.
The Chief Minister said blacklisted contractors would be excluded from the project. The source does not name the tendering agency, the bidders or the project delivery model.
