Executive Summary

A new Pumped Storage Project in Maharashtra plans to install reversible Francis turbines with a total capacity of 1500 MW. The project, comprising upper and lower reservoirs, follows an Open Loop PSP design, without connecting to natural river sources. The upper reservoir, atop a hill, has a 73m dam, while the lower reservoir in a valley has a 72m dam. The estimated cost is Rs. 74,190.6 million, with construction starting in November 2024 and expected completion by August 2028. The environmental clearance process is under examination as of December 2023.
