Vivo to commence manufacturing from Rs 3,500 crore facility in Greater Noida

Manufacturing  -  Jul 31,2024  -

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo will soon start manufacturing at its new facility in Greater Noida. The new plant is spread across 169 acres, boasting current annual production capacity of 60 million units.

Once fully operational, this capacity can be doubled to 120 million units, as per annual India Impact Report 2023 launched on 30 July, 2024.

The move reflects the company's two-pronged approach in India, where it is ramping up domestic manufacturing, and increasing focusing on India-centric products by localising design, camera effects and overall product experience.

Moreover, it has started designing phones to meet consumers' local tastes and preferences under its 'Design for India' initiative.

With the move to localise critical components such as OIS, camera modules, OLED displays, it looks to further spearhead Indian operations.

The plans are a part of the Rs 7,500 crore investment announced by Vivo last year. The company has cumulatively invested Rs 3,500 crore in India until now, primarily towards building its manufacturing footprint.

Over 99 percent of Vivo smartphones shipped in India in 2023 were locally manufactured.
