Tender floated for construction of Railway Station at Kilambakkam

Automotive Industries  -  Oct 09,2023  -

A few months after the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) sanctioned the construction of a new suburban train station in Kilambakkam, the Southern Railway has called for bids to build the facility, which would connect to the Kilambakkam bus terminus, which is now under development.

The new railway station will be built on a 'deposit work' basis for Rs. 20 crore.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) will discharge the entire construction cost of the project under the deposit work mechanism, and the Southern Railway will build the facility.

It may be noted that the project was discussed in the CUMTA authority meeting in May and approval was given.

Moreover, a decision to hand over Rs 20 Crore to the railway was also made.

The new railway railway station will come up close to the new bus terminus between Vandalur and Urapakkam railway stations.
