Telangana plans 10 ‘Pharma Villages’ developed as integrated Greenfield projects

Infrastructure  -  Sep 17,2024  -

The Telangana government is planning to establish ten Pharma Villages initially focusing on Vikarabad, Medak, and Nalgonda.

These sites which will be located 90 minutes from Hyderabad International Airport will be developed as integrated Greenfield Pharma Villages with an investment of Rs. one lakh crore.

Other districts under consideration include Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, Siddipet, and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri.
Conceived under the ‘Mega Master Plan-2050,’ these Pharma Villages will accommodate up to 30 companies at each site. By spreading activities across various regions, companies can manage resources more efficiently, minimize transportation emissions, and align production with regional demands, said Vishal Goel, managing director, RX Propellant, a player in India's lifesciences infrastructure sector, offering an asset-light solution for life sciences companies.

Telangana has emerged as a dominant force in India's pharmaceutical industry. With its intrinsic strengths of strategic initiatives, robust infrastructure, and a favourable business environment, the state is accounting for one-third of India’s pharmaceutical products and one-fifth of its total merchandise exports.

As a favorable ecosystem for Pharma Villages, Goel said that it is Telangana’s strong life sciences infrastructure, with over 800 companies valued at $50 billion and more than 200 US FDA-approved sites, positions it well for developing Pharma Villages by leveraging its research and development capabilities.

Incidentally Rx Propellant is focused on creating a supportive environment in Telangana's Pharma Villages that encourages companies to adopt asset-light models, fostering growth and innovation.
