Tata Power Renewable Energy wins 400 MW wind-solar project from MSEDCL

Power Generation  -  Sep 20,2024  -

Tata Power Renewable Energy announced that it has secured a 400 MW wind-solar hybrid project from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL).

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, received a Letter of Award (LoA) from MSEDCL, which is fully owned by the Maharashtra government, for the development of this project in Maharashtra.

The LoA specifies an initial contracted capacity of 200 MW, with an option to expand by an additional 200 MW. This marks TPREL's largest renewable energy project to date in Maharashtra.

The award was granted through a competitive bidding process utilizing an electronic reverse auction portal. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL and is projected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, with an estimated decrease of 895 million kilograms of CO2 annually.

The hybrid project, which integrates solar and wind energy, will provide electricity to MSEDCL, helping the utility meet its energy requirements sustainably and bolster Maharashtra's renewable energy capacity.

With this new project, TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity now reaches 10.5 GW, with 5.7 GW of projects at various stages of implementation. The operational capacity has reached 4.8 GW, including 3.8 GW from solar energy and 1 GW from wind energy projects.
