Steelbird Hi-Tech, a leading helmet manufacturer, is set to establish a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, to meet the rising demand for branded helmets in India.
The company has allocated Rs100 crore as capital expenditure (CAPEX) for the project, with the total planned investment reaching nearly Rs 250 crore.
The Hosur facility will have an initial production capacity of 20,000 helmets per day and is expected to generate direct employment for around 2,000 people, according to Rajeev Kapur, Managing Director of Steelbird.
This expansion will complement Steelbird’s existing manufacturing operations, which include six facilities in Himachal Pradesh and three in Noida. Additionally, the company plans to set up a cycle helmet manufacturing plant, scheduled to be operational by the second half of 2025.
Steelbird, which currently holds a 40% share of India’s branded helmet market, is poised to capitalize on the significant unmet demand for helmets. “India’s annual demand for helmets is approximately 100 million units, but branded helmet production has not exceeded 30 million units, leaving a substantial gap,” Kapur noted.
