Shyam Metalics commences trial run of cold rolling mill in West Bengal

Shyam Metalics and Energy (SMEL) has announced the expansion of its production capabilities with a greenfield cold rolling mill (CRM) in Jamuria, West Bengal. The facility commenced trial run under Shyam Metalics Flat Product, a wholly-owned stepdown subsidiary of SMEL.

With a total capacity of 4,00,000 tonne annually, the new CRM is a cutting-edge establishment, and will specialise in producing pre-painted galvalume coils (PPGL) and coils of galvanized iron/galvanized steel (GI/GL). With this expansion, Shyam Metalics will be able to produce steel products of the highest calibre and further strengthen its integrated steel manufacturing capabilities. The project has a total capital cost of Rs 603 crore, and Rs 346 crore has been invested already.

The CRM will support housing, warehousing, and industrial sheds, with a particular emphasis on affordable housing through initiatives such as PMAY. While enhancing its product portfolio, it will alao extend the company's reach in both domestic and international markets.

Furthermore, by leveraging its lower production costs and logistical advantages, it aims at optimal utilisation of the new facility within the next two years, and will cater to the need for colour-coated sheet manufacturing units.
