Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), a government coal mining entity jointly owned by the Government of Telangana and the Government of India, continues its stride toward diversification into the solar PV power sector.

Tthe Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana and the in-charge of the Energy portfolio, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, inaugurated a 10.5 MW solar plant in Kothagudem, Telangana. Addressing the event, Bhatti emphasized the state's commitment to formulating an energy policy that prioritizes green energy initiatives.

SCCL, contributing 9% to India's coal production and possessing approximately 7% of the country's coal reserves, has embarked on solar power generation to promote renewable energy and mitigate carbon emissions, according to company officials.

The company has already operationalized 224 MW of solar PV power plants. With the latest addition of the 10.5 MW plant, SCCL's cumulative commissioned solar PV capacity reaches 234.5 MW, out of the approved 300 MW capacity sanctioned by the Telangana government.
