ONGC to start crude oil production from $5 billion project off Andhra coast

Petroleum  -  Nov 21,2023  -

ONGC will begin producing oil from its USD five billion project off the coast of Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming two weeks, . Supporting local oil production, output from the KG-DWN 98/2 deep-sea project—the second on the east coast after RIL-BP's KG-D6 acreage—will be gained.

The real gas output is scheduled to begin in May 2024 and is estimated to produce seven to eight million standard cubic meters per day.

Two million standard cubic meters of associated gas will flow with oil. It is anticipated that oil production would peak in 2024–2025 at 45,000 barrels/day.

It is also the largest underwater development project in the nation, with USD 1.6 billion being built for the infrastructure.

ONGC will put three to four wells into production initially. At peak, a tanker will berth alongside floating storage facility in every two weeks to enable transportation of crude.

The additional volume comes at a time when oil demand is expanding, and will support the company's growth plans. Oil production was to start in November 2021, but construction was delayed.
