Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the state-of-the-art Waste to Energy plant at PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), according to Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited ("AWHCL"), India's top integrated solid waste management firm.
This significant initiative is in line with the Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which promotes a greener and cleaner India, and is being carried out by Antony Lara Renewable Energy Private Limited, a significant subsidiary of the Company.
The Waste to Energy (WTE) project, located at Moshi, PCMC, will process approximately 1,000 tons of Municipal Solid Waste per day, leading to the recovery of recyclable materials, production of compost, and generation of approximately 14 Megawatts of clean and green energy.
Compliant with all environmental emission standards, this initiative sets new benchmarks in responsible and sustainable waste management.
One significant aspect of this project is its association with India's Green Energy Open Access Policy, making PCMC the first municipal corporation to consume the electricity generated by the plant for captive consumption. This approach underscores the commitment of both Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation towards sustainable energy practices.
