Linde commissions ASU in Punjab; doubles capacity in northern India

Infrastructure  -  Oct 07,2024  -

Linde India has successfully started operations of a new air separation unit (ASU) in Ludhiana, Punjab, enhancing the company’s capacity to supply critical gases to various industries across northern India. The newly commissioned ASU has a production capacity of 250 metric tonnes per day, making it Linde India’s second merchant plant in the region, following the one in Selaqui, Uttarakhand.

This strategic expansion more than doubles Linde India’s merchant gas capacity in northern India, addressing the growing demand for medical oxygen, industrial oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. These gases are crucial for sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, steel, semiconductors, automotive, and manufacturing. Situated in the Hi-Tech Cycle Valley Park at Dhanansu, the plant will also cater to industries in the vicinity via a gas pipeline network.

Speaking on the occasion, Abhijit Banerjee, Managing Director of Linde India, emphasised the company’s role in India’s evolving industrial landscape, stating, “Industrial gases are integral to almost every sector in India. As the economy expands and diversifies, we are proud to support both traditional markets like metals and manufacturing, as well as emerging sectors such as electronics, healthcare, and solar energy. Our new ASU will contribute to making these industries more productive and sustainable."

He added, “Linde India’s investment in Ludhiana aligns with our strategy to strengthen our presence in high-growth regions. Punjab, being a hub for multiple sectors, is an ideal location, and the investment was facilitated by the Government of Punjab’s ‘Invest Punjab’ initiative. This plant marks a step toward regional self-reliance in industrial gas supply.”
