Hindalco to invest Rs 2,450 crore in 2 important copper projects in Gujarat

Environment  -  Sep 20,2024  -

Hindalco Industries’ copper division has announced plans to invest approximately ₹2,450 crore in two significant projects in Gujarat. One of the key initiatives involves the establishment of an e-waste recycling facility in Dahej, which is expected to process around 300-350 kilo-tonnes of scrap and e-waste annually.

Construction has begun on India’s first copper and e-waste recycling plant in Dahej. In the initial phase, Hindalco aims to recover about 50 kilo-tonnes of copper, with the overall project targeting a total recovery of 200 kilo-tonnes. This phase is set to involve an investment of ₹2,000 crore and will also yield precious metals such as silver and gold.

In addition, Hindalco plans to expand its copper smelting capacity at the Dahej site, adding 250-280 kilo-tonnes of capacity to meet the increasing demand for copper in India, which will enhance production by 50-60%.

The company is also developing a ₹450 crore copper tube manufacturing unit in Vadodara, Gujarat. This facility will focus on producing copper tubes for air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Initially, the Waghodia plant will have a capacity of 25,000 tonnes, with plans for future expansion to 75,000 tonnes, which will require an additional investment of ₹1,500 crore.
