In the run-up to the state Assembly elections due in October, the Haryana Government has finally granted administrative and financial approval for the construction of the much-awaited 872-bedded (including ICU and trauma centre) multi-speciality government hospital in Gurugram city.

The Chief Medical Officer of Gurugram, Dr Virender Yadav, said the Finance Department had approved an outlay of Rs 990 crore for the construction of the hospital building and setting up other infrastructural facilities.

“This will be the biggest government Civil Hospital in the country in terms of bed capacity. Normally, the medical colleges have 300 to 500 beds,” he said.

The architectural design of the 10-storeyed hospital building has already been designed at a cost of Rs 4.72 crore and the construction work will be managed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the supervision of the state government.

“In the next few days, we will transfer Rs 60 crore to the CPWD to invite tenders for the construction of the new building,” he said, adding that 9 acres had been reserved for the new building to be constructed in the heart of the city.

A provision had also been made to construct a helipad on the 10th floor of the building, which would be used for heli-ambulance services, he said.

Dr Yadav said a provision was also made for making a parking lot for 1,300 cars, including 300 for the doctors and hospital staff members, besides separate buildings for emergency services, outpatient departments, inpatient wards, specialty units, residential block etc.
