Infrastructure  -  Jul 17,2024  -

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is planning to set up a waste processing plant to convert waste into a resource.

The project will focus on Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), one of the key goals of which is to achieve 100% scientific processing of municipal solid waste (MSW), officials said.

"One of the key goals of the SBM is to achieve 100% scientific processing of MSW.As a component of a comprehensive waste management strategy, the Authority has opted to explore effective and efficient methods for processing and end products derived from wet, dry, domestic hazardous, electronic, horticulture, cow dung, and all other types of waste generated within the GNIDA area," the Authority said in its expression of interest (EOI).

The agency will be required to comply with the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, Bio-medical Waste Management Rules 2016, and Hazardous and Other Waste (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules 2016.

Additionally, the land for the project will be given on lease with a lease rent of Rs 1 per square metre per year, officials said.

With the establishment of this plant, the Authority aims to promote a circular economy model wherein waste is viewed as a valuable resource that can be reused, recycled, or repurposed to create new products and generate economic opportunities.

The plant will also help mitigate pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and landfill pressures by diverting waste from disposal sites, which will help to achieve environmental sustainability in the region.
