Equinix Teams Up with CleanMax to Build 33 MW Renewable Energy Projects for Data Centers in India

Infrastructure  -  Nov 15,2024  -

Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure, has partnered with CleanMax, a prominent renewable energy developer, to establish 33 MW of captive renewable energy projects aimed at powering its data centers in India. This initiative is part of Equinix’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions across its global operations.

Under this agreement, Equinix will source clean energy for its facilities in India through a series of solar power projects developed by CleanMax. The renewable energy projects will provide a significant portion of the power needed to run Equinix’s data centers, which are critical for supporting digital services and cloud infrastructure for businesses across the region.

The 33 MW capacity will be split across multiple projects, and the first phase will involve the establishment of a Captive Power Plant (CPP) in Maharashtra. The clean energy generated will help Equinix significantly reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and support its goal of becoming carbon-neutral in its operations worldwide.

This partnership is a significant step for Equinix as it works to meet its sustainability targets, including its goal to power all its data centers with renewable energy. It also aligns with CleanMax’s mission to promote the adoption of clean energy in India and help companies achieve their environmental objectives.

Equinix’s commitment to renewable energy is part of its broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring its data centers remain efficient, reliable, and scalable to meet the growing demand for digital infrastructure in India. The projects with CleanMax will play a crucial role in advancing the company’s sustainability initiatives and supporting India’s transition to a greener energy future.
