Coal India Subsidiary to invest more than 1,000 crore in solar projects

Power Generation  -  Jul 12,2023  -

The Coal India (CIL) subsidiary would invest more than 1,000 crore in the 600 megawatt (MW) solar power projects that will be built by the state-run South Eastern Coalfields (SECL).

According to the Coal Ministry, SECL will develop 600 MW rooftop and ground-mounted solar power projects as part of its ambition to grow and diversify its clientele and reach net-zero energy targets.

SECL provided around a quarter of CIL's total coal production in FY23, which was over 703 million tonnes (MT).

The Miniratna PSU plans to develop projects at a cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore, some of which would be implemented in RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company)/ BOO (Build-Own-Operate) mode, the Ministry added.
