The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation inked a Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, for the building of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project's first phase.

By agreement, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation would serve as the project's turn-key consultant.

The project will stretch from the airport in Bhubaneswar to Trishulia. The project will take four years to complete and be entirely funded by the Odisha  government.

According to CM, the MoU is set to change the transportation environment in the Bhubaneswar Capital Region and herald the beginning of a new era in Odisha's transportation history. The Chief Minister emphasized that the MetroRail project is a flagship initiative under the #5T plan, signifying the development of a New Odisha.

The first phase of the project will cost Rs 6,255.94 crore and will be the single largest investment made in any infrastructure project in Odisha. CM expressed happiness that Odisha Government is delivering yet another promise which was made as part of the Manifesto in 2019.
