Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati to have piped gas supply

Infrastructure  -  Dec 18,2024  -

Officials of the Indian Oil Corporation have proposed to make Amaravati the first “fully piped” capital city in terms of gas connections.

A team led by A Raman Kumar, a member of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), met state chief secretary Neerabh Prasad on Tuesday to discuss the gas pipeline projects and related developments.

The officials drew a comparison between Amaravati and the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar, where everything, including gas, electricity and telecom cables is set underground.

Piped gas is being supplied to residences, business complexes and institutions there. Similarly, Amaravati can be made the first piped gas capital in India, they proposed.

The chief secretary supported the proposal and said the state government would provide full cooperation for this endeavour.

Director of Andhra Pradesh Gas Development Corporation, Dinesh Kumar, said the target is to provide piped gas connections to 80 lakh people in the state.

The PNGRB representatives also visited the RTGS and held a meeting with AP gas development corporation officials. They discussed the progress of the natural gas pipeline construction and the city’s gas distribution work.
